Tokyo’s Great Restaurants Vol.5 ~ by Yukiko ~

I am always told by our guests ” You are riding a bike four days a week regularly, then you must be very fit.”  I reply “Yes, if I can stop drinking beer after the tour…”

Here is my favorite restaurants. Most of them locate near our office. So, I maybe possible to help you to order dishes as most of them have no English menu. Or can I join your dinner ?! 🙂

Name  :  牛幸 Ushiko
Area   :  Shinkawa, Kayabacho (5min. walk from Kayabacho stn.)
Category :   Shabushabu, Sukiyaki, beef steak

*Shabushabu … A hot pot that use thinly sliced beef and vegetables and is served with dipping sauces.                                                                                                         * Sukiyaki  …  It consists of  thinly sliced beef  slowly cooked or simmered at the table, alongside vegetables and other ingredients, in a shallow iron pot in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, and mirin. Before being eaten, the ingredients are usually dipped in a small bowl of raw, beaten eggs.

Reason  :  High quality of Japanese beef and very decent  appearance of the restaurant. It looks very expensive, but actually they are quite reasonable for its appearance and quality. They are rated relatively good word of mouth in Japanese website. The problems are (1) No English menu  (2) No credit card.

Shabushabu course  4,830 yen ~

URL  : (Japanese Only)

Name  :  すず航 Suzuko
Area   :  Shinkawa, Kayabacho (1min. walk from Kayabacho stn.)
Category :   Tempura

Reason  :    You can enjoy “fresh” Tempura which are deep fried and served right in front of you sitting at the counter. The restaurant is rather small and  looks very traditional Japanese, clean and tidy.  No English menu.

Course menu   6,300 yen ~

Name  :  時津洋 Tokitsunada
Area   :  Shinkawa, Kayabacho (3min. walk from Kayabacho stn.)
Category :   Chanko hot pot

* Chanko hot pot … A Japanese hot pot dish commonly eaten in vast quantity by Sumo wrestlers as a part of a weight gain diet. It contains chicken broth soup and a lot of ingredient such as chicken, fish balls, tofu, and lots of vegetable. So although this is a typical food for Sumo wrestler, it’s actually very healthy dish.

Reason : Nice to try especially in winter to make our body warm. If you are lucky, you can meet Tokitsunada who is a retired Sumo wrestler and also a owner of this restaurant. We can also taste Udon noodle with the Chanko hot pot broth. No English menu.

Name  :  串八珍 Kushi hacchin
Area   :  Shinkawa, Kayabacho (3min. walk from Kayabacho stn.)
Category :   Yakitori  (BBQ chicken)

Reason :   5 steps, just in front of our office! Quite reasonable. We always order their Yakitori to take out when we have a party at our office 🙂

There are a lot more nice restaurants near our office. Please feel free to ask our staff after the tour!
